Hi, my name’s Alex Romich. I have opened The Somatic Clinic with the aim to challenge the perspective on bodily pain. I have worked with the human body for over eight years. This stemmed from an early interest as I started my career as a personal trainer. The aim was and still is to improve quality of life, movement and self confidence.
Pain is a big part of life and is the body’s way of telling us something isn’t right or that the body has lost confidence in a particular movement. This grasped my next interest as performing the standard of losing weight and building muscle mass lost its challenge and appeal to me. I then qualified as a sports therapist and have been for 5+ years. Combining rehabilitation and injury management with personal training to get the best possible results for treatment and recovery.
For some strange reason injuries and dysfunction fascinate me and the process taken to treat them I find very exciting which lead to me extending my knowledge as a student osteopath allowing me to provide better softer treatment to a larger range of pain and dysfunction.
I have experience in post operation and treatment care, pain management, rehabilitation of movement, weight loss and muscle building.

Trigger point therapy is a sports massage treatment that aims to relieve pain and restore function to the muscle. A trigger point is a area in the muscle that is susceptible to irritability. The muscle is placed in a shortened position and continuous pressure is applied to diminish pain, function and restore circulation.
Articulation is when a “stiff or tight” joint is found. The therapist will passively take the joint and move it through its pain-free range of motion following a slow smooth motion. This will increase the joints self lubricating system, synovial fluid resulting in reduction of pain and increased joint mobility. Articulation can help with:
– Musculoskeletal pain
– Decreased joint range of motion
– OA Joint changes
– Hypertonic “tight” muscles
Muscle energy technique is a technique used to restore functional length back to a muscle, this can result in reduction of pain, increased joint range and returning of body asymmetry. This is done when a patient resists against a barrier created by the therapist. After the patient relaxes a new barrier is created by the therapist resulting in either lengthening or strengthening of fibres.
Massage is used to warm up the body’s tissues so that they can be easily treated. When massage is applied it increases circulation and lymphatic flow aiding the body’s ability to start a natural healing process. Muscle fibres can be manipulated and worked to release tension, reduce pain and restore Muscle and joint function. This is done in a smooth motion following the natural flow of circulation throughout the body.
